** plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the safety, functionality, and aesthetic of our public spaces, including streets, parks, facilities, equipment and infrastructure by performing essential tasks such as litter removal, traffic safety setup, equipment maintenance, and assisting in construction, repair, and electrical work.

** One Irvine Workforce Apprenticeship Program
** is funded through the California Volunteers Youth Service Corps grant. In addition to employment, apprentices participate in innovative trainings, professional development opportunities, and mentorship, all while supporting some of Irvine's most important initiatives. ** Apprenticeship Eligibility Requirements
** This program is grant funded and has specific eligibility requirements, including:
* Participants must be between 18-30 years old on their first day of service, estimated to be October 2026.
* Priority will be given to Irvine residents who meet at least two of the following: + Are unemployed or out of school + Are low-income +
May have difficulty finding employment + Are first generation college students + Were in or are transitioning from foster care + Are or were engaged with a mental health or substance abuse system + Are or were justice-involved + Are experiencing or have experienced housing instability + Have not participated in an Ameri Corps program
** Your Impact
*** Perform a variety of manual labor tasks to support maintenance of City facilities, streets, equipment and parks, including debris and trash removal, restroom cleaning and stocking, and upkeep of litter-free public areas.
* Maintain, repair, and clean park amenities such as playground equipment, picnic tables and shelters, signs, fences, bleachers, ball courts, drinking fountains, pools, and ponds; remove graffiti and perform painting and minor construction, as needed.
* Perform general facility maintenance, including inspecting and replacing light bulbs, ballasts, ceiling tiles, and light fixtures; checking and repairing doors, hinges, locks, and handles; patching drywall and touching up paint; inspecting and cleaning gutters, downspouts, and pressure wash walkways and walls.
* Maintain interior surfaces and fixtures by vacuuming, mopping, buffing floors, spot-cleaning carpets, and replacing broken floor tiles or torn carpeting to reduce trip hazards.
* Provide plumbing support by unclogging drains, inspecting for leaks or corrosion, replacing faucet aerators, washers, and repairing or replacing leaking faucets and toilets.
* Ensure electrical safety by testing and resetting GFCI outlets, and performing monthly checks on emergency lights and exit signs.
* Respond to facility issues such as leaks, power outages, and triggered alarms.
* Assist with basic street, sidewalk, curb, and storm drain construction and repair; perform asphalt and concrete work including demolition, preparation, crack sealing, and surface paving.
* Set up and maintain traffic control devices and barricades to ensure public and crew safety at job sites and special events.
* Perform general upkeep and cleaning of work areas, including the Fleet Services shop, and support warehouse operations.
* Assist with marking excavation zones as part of the City’s Dig Alert program; dig holes, shovel and rake materials, backfill, and sweep up work areas using hand and power tools.
* Support electrical maintenance activities by running conduit and pulling wires, installing electrical components (e.g., breaker boxes, switches, lights), and disassembling or repairing faulty equipment using appropriate hand tools.
