Pay Range InformationChapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors.

Job Description Summary
The HVAC Technician - Commercial HVAC is a journey-level technician responsible for skilled installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role performs complex technical tasks with minimal supervision and ensures equipment reliability and efficiency across campus/commercial facilities. The Technician III is expected to demonstrate strong diagnostic ability, solid understanding of HVAC systems, and consistent, high-quality workmanship.
ResponsibilitiesOperations & Maintenance
- Perform skilled troubleshooting and repair on a wide range of commercial HVAC systems including air handlers, heat pumps, split systems, VAV boxes, VRF and PTAC systems, boilers, chillers, and pumps.
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance to maintain system reliability and energy efficiency.
- Assist with installation, replacement, and retrofitting of HVAC components and equipment.
- Make adjustments using building automation systems ( BAS / EMS ) within assigned permissions.
- Identify potential system issues and recommend corrective actions or escalation to supervisors when needed.
- Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and sequences of operation.
- Provide feedback on system performance and participate in root-cause analysis for recurring issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all labor, parts, and system readings in the CMMS .
- Follow all EPA , OSHA , and mechanical code requirements for safe HVAC service and refrigerant handling.
