Student Housing is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 300 staff employees, 300-400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 9,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft. Currently, Student Housing houses 51% of UCI's enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI's 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP).

Student Housing also provides maintenance and repair services to student residents.

The Graduate and Family Housing Family Resource Coordinator is responsible for using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

Incumbent will track national trends in parenting student needs to develop curricular responses to those needs. Serves as a member of the Graduate and Family Housing and Student Housing Emergency Response Team. Under the general supervision from the Family Resource Center Manager, the Family Resource Center Coordinator serves as a member of the Graduate and Family Housing Residential Life team.

Assists in the development of community through connecting with residents, supervising student staff, programming/curriculum development and implementation, advising groups, managing projects, and administrative duties. This is a visible and important position in developing the Graduate and Family Housing communities. Overall responsibilities include developing programs and services to support and create belonging among parenting students and their families, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff, oversight of parenting programs, budget management, counseling and referring students (individually and in groups), committee work within housing and with other student service offices;

and working cooperatively with other campus agencies such as SOAR Center, UCI Police Department (UCIPD), Counseling Center, and Health Services. The Family Resource Coordinator will assist the Family Resource Center Manager in the development and expansion of all programs and services managed out of the Family Resource Center within Student Housing.

Required:

• Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
• Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
• Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization and needs of parenting students.
• Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
• Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
• Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
• Skill in counseling individual parenting students/residents and groups of students of diverse backgrounds regarding personal and academic needs; knowledge of campus resources for referrals.
• Ability to respond in a rational and level-headed manner in a crisis or emergency situation using effective crisis management techniques.
