Role SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated and innovative Software Controls People Leader to join our software development team. This lead role is central to the development and integration of control systems for vehicle features, bringing together closely related functional areas with direct customer impact. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer, electrical or mechanical engineering, with a focus on automotive or aerospace control systems software development.
Responsibilities- Serve as the people lead and technical expert for domain software development teams relating to electric vehicle systems like propulsion, energy storage, body and thermal.
- Work with program management and dependent teams across Rivian and Volkswagen brands to make a plan to deliver functionality with quality and meet it.
- Facilitate development planning and post implementation retrospectives with subordinate software implementation and testing teams.
- Oversee full‑scope software architecture development in C including build and quality insight tooling.
- Monitor fleet telemetry and use data analysis to close the loop on software quality and key product performance metrics.
- Partner with other engineering leaders cross‑functionally to design novel approaches for new development and sustaining efforts for existing products.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering and a proven track record of 5+ years of experience leading large teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead software architecture and code reviews in C and C++ and assess effort for new features before implementation begins.
- Industry experience in software lifecycle management and fleet software deployment.
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262 and how to apply safety concepts to distributed embedded systems.
- Expertise in software revision management control software like Git locally and on cloud‑hosted systems such as Gitlab or Github.
- Strong working knowledge of software test automation using frameworks such as Google Test and Pytest.
- Working knowledge of digital communication bus standards.
- Familiarity with closed‑loop control algorithms.
- Ability to solve problems quickly from first principles leveraging design of experiment methodologies and evidence‑based decision making.
Total compensation packages for full‑time positions include base salary, eligibility for an annual performance bonus, and eligibility for equity. Compensation Range: $201.3K – $287.5K.
