Clinical Data Engineer Summer Intern – Irvine, CA
Johnson & Johnson is seeking a motivated and analytical intern to join the Med Tech Cardiovascular & Specialty Solutions group. The internship is a 10‑12 week paid program (June‑September 2025) based in Irvine, CA, with a full‑time schedule of 40 hours per week. Interns may work remotely in compliance with public health regulations.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with practicing statisticians and data engineers on clinical or nonclinical projects including clinical studies, post‑marketing studies, Real‑World Evidence registry studies, and other data‑science initiatives.
- Participate in working groups such as the Statistical Methodology/Consulting Working Group, Machine Learning Working Group, RWE/Publication Support Team, and R, Python, SAS User Groups.
- Prepare, clean, and graphically explore data.
- Build and analyze statistical models and write computer programs or software applications related to projects.
- Design experiments and conduct simulations to evaluate optimal designs, and contribute to methodological development.
- Document findings and produce reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Actively enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or MBA (freshman year completed required).
- Minimum GPA of 2.8.
- Field of study related to Software Engineering, Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
- Detail‑oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks independently and collaboratively.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and programming skills; proficiency in R and/or Python preferred.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills preferred.
- Permanent U.S. work authorization; no current employment‑visa sponsorship required.
- Students on CPT, OPT, or STEMOPT are generally ineligible unless eligible for an alternative status that does not require sponsorship.
Hourly pay ranging from $22.00 to $51.50, based on program year, discipline, degree, and experience. The internship is overtime eligible. Eligible intern/co‑op participants may be able to join company benefit programs such as medical insurance, sick time, holiday pay, and the consolidated retirement plan. Housing stipend is offered for qualifying interns. This position is ineligible for severance.
