Job SummaryAll drivers run daily routes with frequent stops and are required to load packages onto hand trucks and unload product at each stop on the assigned route in the order they are designated by the Transportation Department Manager. The candidate will operate successfully in a cross‑dock model picking up a loaded truck from a nightly delivery at the assigned loading dock and return the empty truck back to the assigned lot at the end of the route.
May be required to assist occasionally with loading‑trucks, palletizing product, and performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.
- Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects.
- Run routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times.
- Unload product from trailer by hand or using a hand cart, and place in designated customer storage areas; transport product down ramps, stairs or docks in all weather conditions.
- Frequently lift, push or move product weighing 1–75 pounds, up to 100 pounds; frequently reach up to 72” to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart; bend and twist while loading and unloading product, and retrieve items from trailer.
- Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures.
- Contact management for authorization when discrepancies appear on invoices and communicate all errors or returns.
- Call in when a customer does not receive their entire order.
- Handle any customer complaints professionally.
- Handle company equipment properly, follow written driver safety rules, and perform a pre‑trip inspection.
- Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip responsibilities in accordance with Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and Sysco policies and procedures.
- Frequent lifting of product up to 50 lbs. during the shift and infrequent lifting up to 80 lbs.
- Climb on and off the truck box, bend, squat, push, and pull frequently and work in confined spaces.
- High School or GED or equivalent.
- One‑year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a straight truck.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
- Commercial Vehicle Drivers must have the ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, and respond to official inquiries.
- If you hold a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you will be designated as a CDL driver for Sysco, regardless of the specific position for which you are applying.
- This classification may affect your job responsibilities and subject you to compliance requirements under Department of Transportation including participation in the DOT Drug and Alcohol Random Testing Program.
- Candidates must have: be 21 years or older; no drug or alcohol violations within the past 3 years; no open violations listed in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- Operate vehicle in a variety of traffic and weather conditions.
- Meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company.
- Meet or exceed established cases per error goals.
- Demonstrate strong customer relations and problem resolution skills.
- Effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision.
- Develop a good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures.
- Maintain ongoing inter‑department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.
- Perform simple arithmetic and handle money (experience preferred).
- Build customer loyalty and trust, adapt, follow up, and communicate effectively.
