A large multinational organization is seeking a Property Tax Accountant or Senior Property Tax Accountant to join its Corporate Tax team. This role is responsible for supporting property tax compliance, reporting, audit management, licensing requirements, and tax-related research across a diverse portfolio of operating locations. The position will partner closely with accounting, finance, facilities, and external advisors to ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain compliance calendars covering property tax filings, business licenses, renewals, and payment deadlines.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure fixed asset records accurately reflect asset locations, transfers, acquisitions, and disposals.
- Import and validate fixed asset data within property tax reporting systems and review asset classifications for accuracy.
- Prepare, review, and file annual real estate and business personal property tax returns.
- Maintain property tax databases and supporting documentation to facilitate reporting and audit readiness.
- Manage personal property tax audits, including information gathering, response preparation, and communication with taxing authorities.
- Review assessment notices, analyze valuations, identify discrepancies, and prepare supporting documentation for appeals and refund claims when appropriate.
- Coordinate and manage property tax appeals and work with external consultants as needed.
- Review and reconcile tax bills, support payment processing, and assist with account reconciliations.
- Research tax legislation, regulatory developments, and jurisdiction‑specific property tax matters.
- Process incoming tax documents and ensure timely filing and payment of obligations.
- Prepare and maintain business license and permit applications, renewals, and related compliance requirements.
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting licensing and property tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Partner with accounting, finance, and operational teams on various tax‑related projects and initiatives.
- Provide support for additional indirect tax and compliance activities as required.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working with property tax compliance and reporting software.
- Knowledge of fixed assets, property tax reporting, audits, and appeals.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- Experience with ERP systems and large‑scale financial environments.
- Background in a complex, multi‑state corporate tax environment.
- Combination of public accounting and industry experience.
- Experience leveraging technology and AI‑enabled tools to improve efficiency and reporting processes.
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex tax issues and deliver practical solutions.
