Controller Asst Controller

Position Summary:
The Controller supports the CFO in managing the company's accounting operations within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, overseeing cost accounting and inventory, managing fixed assets, and supporting acquisition integrations. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience in manufacturing, strong ERP experience (M1 preferred), and a proven ability to improve processes and support financial leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Close
- Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Ensure the accuracy of general ledger activity and account reconciliations
- Support variance analysis and management reporting
- Cost & Inventory Accounting
- Oversee cost accounting functions, including standard costing and variance analysis
- Ensure accuracy of inventory valuation and support cycle counts and physical inventories
- Partner with operations to validate BOMs, labor routings, and cost structures
- Analyze production costs and identify efficiency opportunities
- ERP & Systems Management
- Support the use and optimization of M1 ERP (or similar system)
- Maintain data integrity across financial systems
- Assist in ERP enhancements, implementations, and process automation initiatives
- Acquisitions & Integration
- Lead or support the integration of acquired entities into company financial systems and reporting structures
- Align accounting policies, chart of accounts, and procedures for newly acquired businesses
- Assist in data migration, system conversions, and post-acquisition process standardization
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth integration and reporting consistency
- Fixed Assets & Capital Accounting
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards for capital expenditures
- Manage or improve fixed asset systems and reporting processes
- Compliance & Internal Controls
- Support adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Strengthen internal controls and identify process improvement opportunities
- Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise accounting staff and provide guidance on daily activities
- Review work for accuracy and adherence to policies
- Assist in training, mentoring, and developing team members
- Serve as a backup to the CFO when needed
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts
- Monitor performance against budget and provide variance analysis
- Assist leadership with financial planning and decision support
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including manufacturing experience
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory, and fixed assets
- Experience with acquisition integration and financial system transitions
- Advanced Excel skills and ERP system experience
Preferred:
- Experience with M1 ERP software
- CPA or CMA certification (or actively pursuing)
- Supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience managing fixed asset systems or modules
