- Indirect Tax is responsible for all sales and use tax duties for assigned U.S. States. Responsible for reporting, audits, exemption certificates, business licenses, unclaimed property, W-9’s and special projects.

Major Activities Prepare monthly work papers related to sales and use tax return compliance, account reconciliations, and journal entries for assigned jurisdictions.

Work with outside consultants on business license compliance, which includes gathering data, obtaining signatures, and providing copies of business licenses to stores.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to properly assign Vertex tax categories to new products.

Review customer-provided exemption certificates and assist with customer inquiries.

Respond to various jurisdictional notices.

Prepare W-9s and distribute them to internal and external stakeholders as requested.

Research and resolve tax technical issues.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Special Certifications or technical skills

Working knowledge and application of accounting principles

Proficient in Excel and the Microsoft suite

Minimum Type of experience the job requires3+ years of related experience, including account reconciliation

Other

Comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-project, deadline-driven environment and working with minimal supervision

Excellent organizational, time management, and analytical skills

Effective interpersonal and communication skills and enthused by working as part of a team Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Preferred Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance Preferred Special Certifications or technical skills

Certified Public Accountant candidate a plus

Experience with Vertex indirect tax software and tax research tools such as Checkpoint Edge or Bloomberg Tax Research Familiarity with ETL software such as Alteryx and ERP applications and tools such as Oracle, HFM, Essbase, and Smart View Experience  with Big 4 accounting firms

Preferred Type of experience the job requires

Sales and Use Tax Compliance experience for multiple states
