Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone and greet visitors
  • Handle purchasing financial operations such as deposits and invoice payments
  • Tally, track, sort, file, assemble, and deliver various records and packets, including bids, invoices, payments, applications, requests for service, purchase card expenditures, and information pamphlets
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and other information for the public, outside agencies, and other city departments
  • Post information on the City’s website
  • Prepare agendas for various departmental committees and the Commission
  • Serve as primary staff for the Board of Adjustment, including creating and posting agendas, assembling and distributing packets, attending at least one night meeting per month, and completing minutes
  • Scan, copy, file and perform other general clerical tasks
Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent, plus some college or specialized training, and two years of administrative assistant or secretarial experience required. Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills beneficial. Publicly oriented, high quality customer service and development and zoning knowledge and/or experience preferred. Must have advanced knowledge of MS Office products and a high level of computer proficiency. A résumé must be submitted with application.

Pay

PAY GRADE GG18 / FULL PAY RANGE $26.72 - $37.67 PER HOUR

About the Planning Department

The Planning Department oversees the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and other plans for specific neighborhoods. It works with land owners, residents and builders on development of properties through administration of the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision/Platting Regulations, as well as administering beautification programs and a home improvement program. This team also maintains statistical information about Irving including population, demographics, housing, employment and other data.
