Role Overview
McKesson's Corporate Strategy and Business Development team seeks a Principal for the Payer & Risk Bearer Strategy and Stakeholder Intelligence group. The Principal will lead strategic analyses to identify new ways McKesson creates differentiated value for payers, PBMs, government agencies, and other risk‑bearing entities.
Key Responsibilities- Thought Leadership & Market Intelligence – Develop deep expertise on payer market trends (PBM reform, value‑based care, government payment models, CMS Health Tech Ecosystem). Lead knowledge‑sharing forums and provide market insights to senior leaders.
- Payer Value Proposition Development – Define and prioritize new value‑creation approaches for payers, PBMs, and government agencies. Shape capability roadmaps (build, buy, partner).
- CMS Health Tech Ecosystem Evaluation & Business Development – Build a pipeline of partnership and acquisition targets; develop business cases, market sizing analyses, and financial models. Manage stakeholder relationships and evaluate fit with strategic goals.
- Inform Strategy & Solution Development – Partner with business units on benefit carveouts, alternative PBM models, and value‑based care contracting. Advise on market landscape and provide support for PBM/Payer selection.
- Strategic Project Leadership – Scope and manage end‑to‑end strategic projects, delivering on deliverables, timelines, and actionable insights.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Executive Communication – Build trust with internal stakeholders and present findings through executive presentations, investment memos, and recommendations.
- Team Leadership – Mentor and develop junior team members as needed.
- 8+ years in corporate strategy, business development, product development, or equivalent payer/PBM/plan sponsor services.
- Proven track record leading cross‑functional strategic initiatives from concept to execution.
- Experience identifying, evaluating, and advancing partnership, acquisition, or investment opportunities.
- Strong attention to detail in data, models, and reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with proven ability to influence senior executives.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and navigate ambiguity.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools and database querying languages (Tableau, Power BI, SQL).
- Strong, Relevant Network – Well‑connected among payers, PBMs, government agencies, and emerging digital health players.
- Strategic Thinking – Evaluate emerging trends and recommend pragmatic strategies.
- Analytical Rigor – Structure ill‑defined problems and deliver actionable insights.
- Financial Acumen – Build sophisticated business cases and perform scenario analyses.
- Communication Skills – Build credibility across the organization and engage senior leaders.
- Business Acumen – Deep understanding of payer economics, value‑based care, drug pricing, reimbursement, and regulatory impacts.
- Technology & Innovation Orientation – Proficiency in AI, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance strategic analysis.
- 4‑year bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Health Administration, Economics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- MBA or equivalent strongly preferred.
- General office demands.
- Potential for up to 40% travel.
Base Pay: $189,800 – $316,400
