About the role:
The Director of Subcontractor Operations leads Divcon's national low-voltage subcontractor strategy and operating model, ensuring scalable regional coverage, reliable execution, standardized pricing and contracts, and clear expectations for quality, schedule, cost, safety, and field performance.
This role serves as the senior Operations leader for subcontractor strategy and performance, partnering with subcontractors, Project Managers, Project Executives, Estimating, Engineering, Procurement, Sales, Legal, and executive leadership to reduce risk, improve project outcomes, and support Divcon's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and lead a scalable national subcontractor strategy aligned with Divcon's growth plans, regional coverage requirements, project pipeline, and execution standards.
- Establish the standards and governance for identifying, recruiting, evaluating, onboarding, and retaining qualified low-voltage subcontractors, including MSAs, NDAs, compliance documentation, scope expectations, and performance requirements.
- Own national and regional pricing strategies, labor-rate benchmarks, unit costs, commercial standards, and procurement discipline for subcontractor-driven scopes of work.
- Direct cross-functional collaboration with Estimating, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to solicit and level bids, validate scope and cost assumptions, and improve the completeness and competitiveness of pricing packages.
- Provide executive-level review and guidance on subcontractor quotes, scopes, and change orders; establish approval, negotiation, and escalation standards that protect cost, schedule, and contractual outcomes.
- Establish clear communication and escalation protocols for Project Managers and Project Executives when subcontractor scope clarification or intervention is required during project execution.
- Provide leadership visibility into subcontractor-related risks, delays, cost impacts, quality issues, safety concerns, and resource constraints across active projects and the broader portfolio.
- Participate in project reviews, schedule discussions, forecasting, and operational planning meetings to advise on subcontractor capacity, scope, performance, and business risk.
- Develop and oversee a rolling subcontractor performance scorecard, including quality, schedule adherence, cost reliability, responsiveness, safety alignment, capacity, and ability to meet Divcon execution standards.
- Lead subcontractor performance reviews and QBRs, establishing accountability for trends, risks, corrective actions, capacity planning, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Identify systemic subcontractor execution issues, lead root-cause analysis, and sponsor cross-functional solutions that improve project performance and reduce recurring risk.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of low-voltage systems, structured cabling, BMS/EPMS, PLC/SCADA, mission-critical construction, data centers, or similar subcontractor-driven environments.
- Demonstrated success negotiating and governing MSAs, scopes of work, pricing structures, compliance requirements, commercial terms, and subcontractor performance expectations at scale.
- Strong business and operational judgment regarding how subcontractor strategy and performance affect project cost, schedule, quality, safety, field coordination, customer commitments, and enterprise risk.
- Proven ability to build scalable operating models, reporting discipline, governance, and continuous-improvement processes across complex multi-project and multi-market environments.
- Executive-level communication, relationship management, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to align subcontractors and internal leaders across functions and levels of authority.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in subcontractor, vendor, procurement, construction, project, or operations management, including significant direct responsibility for subcontractor strategy and performance.
- Leadership experience managing subcontractor scopes across multiple projects, regions, customer environments, or business units required.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional partnerships with project, estimating, engineering, procurement, field, legal, finance, subcontractor, and vendor teams to drive execution and resolve complex issues.
