Job Description

Job Description Environmental Remediation Construction Superintendent Remote / Travel-Based | U.S. Projects

A growing environmental remediation contractor is seeking an experienced, hands-on Construction Superintendent to lead field execution on complex remediation projects across the United States. This is a travel-based role for a practical, safety-driven field leader who is comfortable operating in remote project locations and taking ownership of day-to-day site performance.

The successful candidate will serve as the on-site operational leader, partnering closely with a Project Manager while directing crews, subcontractors, equipment, sequencing, safety, quality, and schedule execution. Projects may include soil and groundwater remediation, excavation, treatment-system installation and operation, dewatering, piping, pumps, process equipment, contaminated-media handling, and related civil or industrial field construction.

This is not a desk-based project-management role. We are looking for a "boots-on-the-ground" superintendent with substantial environmental remediation experience who can make sound field decisions, communicate clearly, and maintain a safe, productive site under challenging conditions.

What you'll do
  • Lead daily field operations on environmental remediation and environmental construction projects ranging from smaller short-duration assignments to large, multi-phase programs.
  • Serve as the senior on-site representative and primary field partner to the Project Manager.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise crews, foremen, subcontractors, equipment operators, and specialty vendors.
  • Drive safe work execution and ensure compliance with project-specific health and safety plans, company procedures, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, pre-task planning, toolbox talks, field inspections, and documentation.
  • Coordinate work involving remediation systems, including treatment equipment, piping, pumps, tanks, filtration, dewatering, process components, and related utilities.
  • Oversee field activities involving contaminated soil, groundwater, sludge, excavation, material handling, hauling, civil work, and heavy equipment.
  • Build and maintain short-interval plans, daily work plans, manpower plans, equipment plans, and look-ahead schedules.
  • Monitor production, labor, equipment utilization, material needs, and subcontractor performance to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify field constraints early and communicate practical solutions to the Project Manager and internal leadership.
  • Read and execute against plans, specifications, scopes of work, permits, work plans, and technical drawings.
  • Maintain high-quality daily reports, safety records, timekeeping, production tracking, photographs, delivery records, and field documentation.
  • Coordinate mobilization, site setup, temporary facilities, laydown areas, equipment logistics, and demobilization.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel.
  • Mentor field personnel and help establish a disciplined, collaborative, accountable jobsite culture.
  • Travel continuously or semi-continuously to project locations, including rural and remote areas.
What we're looking for
  • 10+ years of environmental remediation, environmental construction, or closely related field-supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a superintendent, field superintendent, general superintendent, lead supervisor, or senior foreman on remediation projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of soil and groundwater remediation methods, environmental field operations, and construction-site execution.
  • Experience in one or both of the following technical areas:
  • Treatment-system installation, piping, pumps, mechanical process equipment, plumbing, water treatment, or groundwater treatment systems.
  • Heavy civil / earthwork / excavation / contaminated-soil handling / dewatering / sludge or material processing.
  • Broad remediation experience across both field construction and treatment-system work is strongly .
  • Proven ability to lead crews and subcontractors in active, high-accountability field environments.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment, field logistics, excavation safety, utility coordination, and construction sequencing.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, P&IDs, piping drawings, site plans, schedules, and technical work packages.
  • Sound judgment, calm communication style, and the ability to solve problems…
