Position Overview

The Highlands School is an independent Catholic, college prep school serving families from all over the Dallas Metroplex. We are looking to expand our team of Christ centered educators in the following discipline(s):

Qualifications
  • Music education degree or related bachelor’s from a fully accredited university.
  • Experience in music education.
  • Ability to provide accurate appropriate vocal model for young singers.
  • Ability to accompany singers on one or more instruments including piano or guitar.
  • Ability to teach the structure of music, the performance of vocal and instrumental music through creativity in music through composing and improvising at the developmental level appropriate for each grade of elementary school.
  • Ability to communicate with students, school staff, parents, and community members in, about and through music.
Responsibilities
  • Provide a grade appropriate instructional music education program to lower and middle school students.
  • Organize two annual concerts where classes at each grade level sing hymns or melodies appropriate for the occasion.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons to a range of classes.
  • Exercise students in the development of their intellectual skills and abilities.
  • Motivate students to continual personal improvement.
  • Mark work and give timely and appropriate feedback; communicate any issues to parent and your supervisor.
  • Maintain constant supervision and discipline among the students in their care inside and outside the classroom.
  • Ensure an effective and formative learning environment within the classroom according to school guidelines; monitor classroom and school environment to ensure that it remains clean, safe and in good condition.
  • Maintain appropriate records of student progress and development, including report cards; recommend students for awards.
  • Keep up to date with developments in his/her subject area and new resources and methods; devise and write new materials in support of the approved curriculum.
  • Select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment appropriate for achieving student formation objectives.
  • Devise and adapt resources to suit the formation needs of his/her students; assist students with learning and behavior difficulties to overcome their difficulties; support students, one-on-one, through academic or personal difficulties.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests; administer and invigilate tests.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of classroom-based and school-wide celebrations, activities, academic contests, and formation programs.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and on school grounds, applying appropriate and effective motivational discipline measures in cases of inappropriate behavior; inform the Dean of Student Life in a timely manner of any student behavior infractions.
  • Supervise and support the work of any assigned teacher assistant; mentor any assigned teachers.
  • Fulfill student supervision duties as assigned, directing student transitions between classes in a silent and orderly manner.
  • Participate in and organize extracurricular programs and activities as assigned; motivate students to actively participate.
  • Participate in regular one-on-one, grade-level and departmental meetings; participate in parent/teacher meetings, parents conference, etc. as directed by your supervisor.
  • Make continual progress in personal professional growth and development; actively participate in all school-sponsored training activities.
  • Liaise with other professionals including the dean of student life, dean of discipline, dean of academic affairs, formation team leaders.
Reporting Structure
  • The Music Teacher reports to the Lower/Middle School Principal.

Job Requirements
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
