PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences which will prepare, train, and certify them to be leaders in Health Science Technology, with emphasis on Nursing/Patient Care Technicians. The instructor is to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will become familiar with industry-based standards for documenting and maintaining medical information;

research industry employment requirements, including education, certification, and licensing requirements; and evaluate ethical and legal responsibilities of health science professionals. Students will employ hands-on experiences for continued clinical knowledge and skill development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

Education/Certification:

* Associate Degree plus National License or Certification in Health Professions and

2 years wage earning experience in the Health Profession or

* Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in related subject and

Minimum 2 years teaching experience (Preferred) or

* Texas Teacher Certification in:

* o Health Science 6-12

* o Health Science Technology Education 8-12

This position requires dual credit credentialing with Dallas College.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Knowledge of Health Science clinical rotations and internship requirements, policies, and procedures

* Ability to align Health Science curriculum to targeted industry certification exams

* Knowledge of State Performance Based Monitoring Analysis System (PBMAS) and ability to analyze and document data for improved student performance

* Ability to provide content knowledge and skills in health-related professions

* Ability to market Health Science programs to students, staff, parents, and the business community

* Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

* Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school and medical environment

* Fluent with technology use and actively integrates technology to enhance student learning.

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Strategies:

1. Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.

2. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

3. Provide students with instruction on industry standard software and provide opportunities, where appropriate, for students to earn industry certifications.

4. Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (i.e. gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.).

5. Work cooperatively with special education teachers/staff to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).

6. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

7. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) while working with students in the classroom.

8. Use appropriate technologies to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process.

9. Participate as an active member of the CTE Advisory Board for Health Sciences.

10. Participate as a sponsor of a CTE student organization and competitions (HOSA).

Student Growth and Development:

1. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.

2. Consistently monitor student achievement through formative and summative assessments.

3. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

4. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.

5. Provide students with opportunities to earn appropriate industry certification.

Classroom Management and Organization:

1. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

2. Provide safety training for students and maintain documentation that the student mastered the concepts.

3. Manage student behavior in the classroom and other areas as appropriate in accordance with Student Code of Conduct, board policies, administrative regulations, and/or IEP.
