Job Title

Health Science Teacher – Dual Credit

Primary Purpose

Provide students with learning activities and experiences that prepare, train, and certify them as leaders in Health Science Technology, emphasizing Nursing/Patient Care Technician roles.

Qualifications
  • Associate Degree plus National License or Certification in Health Professions; or Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a related subject.
  • Two years wage‑earning experience in the Health Profession.
  • Minimum two years teaching experience (preferred).
  • Texas Teacher Certification in Health Science 6‑12 or Health Science Technology Education 8‑12.
  • Dual‑credit credentialing with Dallas College.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of Health Science clinical rotations, internship requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to align curriculum to industry certification exams.
  • Knowledge of the State Performance Based Monitoring Analysis System (PBMAS) and ability to analyze data.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency with technology and integration to enhance learning.
  • Ability to market Health Science programs to students, staff, parents, and the business community.
  • Adaptability to school and medical environments.
Instructional Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement curriculum plans; provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Present subject matter per Texas Education Agency guidelines and district policies.
  • Provide instruction on industry standard software and facilitate industry certifications.
  • Use data to plan instruction and accommodate individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula per Individual Education Plans.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to strengthen teaching and learning.
  • Serve on the CTE Advisory Board and sponsor HOSA activities.
Student Development
  • Assist students in analyzing study methods and improving habits.
  • Monitor achievement through formative and summative assessments.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Model positive behavior supporting the district mission.
  • Encourage industry certification opportunities.
Classroom Management
  • Create conducive learning environment.
  • Provide safety training and document mastery.
  • Manage behavior per Student Code of Conduct, IEP, and district policies.
  • Protect students, equipment, and materials.
  • Select instructional materials.
Communication
  • Maintain open communication with students, parents, community members, and industry partners.
  • Participate in the cluster advisory committee.
  • Maintain professional relationships with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Use clear communication skills.
Professional Growth
  • Demonstrate current knowledge and instructional strategies.
  • Attend district and campus professional development.
  • Participate in required meetings and advisory sessions.
  • Pursue professional improvement initiatives.
  • Attend certification‑related training and annual safety training.
Policy Implementation
  • Stay informed and comply with state, district, and school regulations.
  • Maintain required reports and records.
  • Participate in meetings and committees.
