JOB DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY PURPOSE
:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned
  • ESL Supplemental Certification preferred
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent with technology use and actively integrates technology to enhance student learning
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials and equipment that accommodate the individual needs of students (gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc).
  • Cooperate with special education teachers/staff to modify curricula for special education students per Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Collaborate with staff to plan and implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteers in the classroom.
  • Use appropriate technologies to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study habits.
  • Consistently monitor student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model supporting the mission of the district.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a learning‑conducive classroom environment aligned with student development.
  • Manage student behavior according to Student Code of Conduct, board policies, and IEP.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
Communication
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents/guardians.
  • Maintain professional relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and community members.
  • Use clear and accurate communication skills.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Demonstrate current knowledge and skill in the content area and instructional strategies.
  • Participate in district and campus professional development.
  • Show initiative in professional improvement.
Policy Implementation
  • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical behavior.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental, Physical, Environmental Factors
:
Must maintain emotional control, exercise reasoning and problem solving under stress, communicate effectively, interpret procedures and analyze data for decision‑making, travel in district and occasionally statewide or nationally, tolerate irregular hours.
