Special Education Coordinator: SLP and Related Service Providers
This position is eligible for a Chapter 21 contract.
Primary
Purpose:
- Develop, manage and implement a speech therapy and related services program to facilitate the needs of students with communicative disorders and related services needs district wide.
- Provide support and technical assistance to campus administrators, assessment staff, and central office staff in special education instruction, programming, and services
- Assist the Special Education Director and provide leadership within the areas of teaching and learning, compliance, materials, assessment and evaluation, appraisal and public relations relative to students with disabilities
- Support school staff with effective implementation Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students with disabilities
- Provide support to campus and district personnel in the area of special education compliance
- Supervise district special education assessment staff
Qualifications:
Minimum
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence and State licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist
-Preferred - Valid Texas Educator Certificate – Preferred
- Valid Texas Principal or mid-management certification
- Preferred
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Spanish bilingual proficiency
- Preferred - Special Education assessment experience – Required
- Knowledge of researched-based best practices for providing specially designed instruction for students with disabilities
- Knowledge of the Texas State Performances Plan Indicators (SPP) Results Driven Accountability
- Knowledge of federal and state rules governing the education of students with disabilities
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in attaining district special education program goals/objectives
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
- General knowledge of curriculum content area standards
- Knowledge and experience with conflict resolution, mediation and due process hearings
- Ability to case manage and collaborate in the best interests of students
Minimum Experience :
- At least five (5) years successful teaching experience or relevant speech language pathology experience
- Special Education assessment experience – Required
