PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
The dyslexia specialist will assist the coordinator in the overall
improvement of the district dyslexia program by coaching and
mentoring dyslexia interventionists and specialists, developing and
supporting the instructional program and delivery of services, and
ensuring full compliance of local, state, and federal mandates.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Education/Certification:
? Bachelor's Degree
? Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
? Certified Academic Language Therapist or Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (preferred)
? Special Education Certification
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
? Knowledge of dyslexia and related disorders
? Knowledge of dyslexia therapy programs and best practices for remediation of reading
difficulties/disabilities
? Knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines and mandates for dyslexia and related
disorders
? Experience administering and interpreting assessments used for dyslexia evaluation
? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
? Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within a complex and compliance driven
service department
Minimum Experience:
? Three (3) years of successful classroom experience
? Three (3) years of experience as a dyslexia interventionist/specialist/therapist
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Serve as instructional coach and mentor to dyslexia interventionists and specialists.
2. Visit dyslexia interventionists and specialists regularly to observe instruction and review
compliance records, and provide timely feedback on observations of strengths and
opportunities for growth.
3. Lead development and implementation of district-adopted dyslexia curriculum(s).
4. Assist with planning and leading the district dyslexia leadership team and department
meetings.
5. Support with the selection of instructional materials/resources and the selection of
intervention and remediation techniques/programs.
6. Lead and develop professional development opportunities for dyslexia interventionists,
classroom teachers, and other educators within the district.
7. Attend regional professional development opportunities and leadership meetings to stay
abreast of compliance updates and learn new information and ideas to improve services
offered in the district.
8. Participate in data analysis discussions with the department leadership team to identify
additional areas of focus to improve student outcomes.
9. Work collaboratively with campus administration teams as needed to address concerns,
support campus interventionists, and ensure compliance with state and federal mandates.
10. Work collaboratively with the dyslexia evaluation team to ensure alignment of evaluations
and services.
11. Work collaboratively within the department and with other district departments as needed.
12. Support with operational management and logistics within the department (scheduling of
services, 504/ARD meetings, curriculum design and inventory management, compliance
records, etc).
13. Assist with dyslexia evaluations (as needed to ensure compliance with timelines).
14. Other duties as assigned.

Must maintain emotional control and
exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to
communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze
data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional
prolonged and irregular hours.
Safety:
Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District
policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective
equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to the supervisor, and being
proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
