PROFESSIONAL

TITLE:

Teacher.

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Provide students with learning activities in the core academic subject areas assigned, supporting intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and developing skills to function in a global society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned
  • Completion of Texas Reading Academy required for Elementary
  • ESL Supplemental Certification preferred
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
  • Demonstrated competency in core subject area, curriculum and instruction, behavior management, strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and technology integration skills
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and implement curriculum plans with written evidence of preparation.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and regulations.
  • Use data to plan instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment, accommodating individual student needs (gifted, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.).
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula per IEP.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides/volunteers.
  • Use appropriate technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods; monitor achievement via formative and summative assessments.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities; sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Model a positive role for students supporting the district mission.
  • Maintain a conducive classroom environment appropriate to students’ development.
  • Manage student behavior according to Student Code of Conduct, board policies, regulations, and IEP.
  • Ensure safety and protection of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain open communication with students, parents/guardians, supervisors, colleagues, and community members.
  • Present information accurately and clearly using appropriate communication skills.
  • Show current knowledge, understanding, and skill in assigned content area and instructional strategies.
  • Participate in district and campus professional development; demonstrate initiative for improvement.
  • Stay informed of state, district, school regulations and policies; comply with them.
  • File reports, records, and documentation electronically or physically.
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings and serve on committees as required; uphold Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Follow Irving ISD Employee Handbook and Board Policy.
Working Conditions

Demonstrate effective communication, emotional control, reasoning, and decision-making while under stress. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel.

Work involves prolonged sitting and standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, walking, repetitive computer work, light lifting, and use of standard office equipment, copier, laptop, video camera, and digital equipment.

Safety

Contribute to accident prevention by observing safety rules, complying with district policy, completing safety training, wearing required PPE, reporting injuries, and improving workplace safety.
