3rd Grade ESL Teacher (26-27 SY) – Hanes ES

Job Title: Teacher

Reports To: Campus Principal

Schedule: 187 duty days, Exempt, Full‑Time

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned, helping them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for the subject/level assigned
  • Completion of Texas Reading Academy required for Elementary
  • ESL Supplemental Certification preferred
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent with technology use and active integration of technology to enhance student learning
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and document preparation as required.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Use available data to plan and implement instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that accommodate the individual needs of students (gifted, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.).
  • Cooperate with special education teachers/staff to modify curricula for special education students based on Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Collaborate with staff to implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers while working with students in the classroom.
  • Use appropriate technologies to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Consistently monitor student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Act as a positive role model supporting the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a learning environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct, board policies, administrative regulations, and IEPs.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents/guardians.
  • Maintain professional relationships with supervisors, colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use clear, accurate communication skills to present information.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Demonstrate current knowledge and skill in the assigned content area and instructional strategies.
  • Participate in district and campus professional development.
  • Show initiative and interest in professional improvement.
Policy Implementation
  • Stay informed and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Maintain and file required reports and records.
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Act in accordance with the Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Adhere to the Irving ISD Employee Handbook and Board Policy.
Working Conditions

Mental and Physical Demands: Demonstrate effective communication, maintain emotional control, exercise reasoning and problem‑solving skills under stress, analyze data for decision‑making. Frequent in‑district and occasional in‑state or national travel.

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting.

Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15–25 pounds); may lift textbooks and classroom equipment.

Tools and Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, copier, laptop computer, video camera and digital video equipment.

Environmental Factors: Exposure to hot or cold temperatures; work indoors/outdoors; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Safety: Observe safety rules and district policy, apply safety training principles, wear required protective equipment, report injuries immediately, and contribute to ongoing safety improvements.
