Teacher Job Description – 5th Grade ESL (Keyes Elementary School)
Job Title: Teacher (5th Grade ESL)
Location: Keyes ES, Irving, Texas
Employment Status: Full‑time, Exempt
Duty Days: 187 days
Pay Grade: Teacher Salary
Funding Source: Local
Reporting To: Campus Principal
Primary PurposeProvide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned
- Completion of Texas Reading Academy required for Elementary
- ESL Supplemental Certification preferred
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Fluent with technology use and actively integrates technology to enhance student learning
- Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that accommodate individual student needs (gifted, ESL, 504, etc.).
- Collaborate with special education teachers/staff to modify curricula for special education students per Individual Education Plans.
- Cooperate with other staff members in planning and implementing instructional goals and objectives according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides or volunteers while working with students in the classroom.
- Use appropriate technologies to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Consistently monitor student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor approved outside activities.
- Serve as a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom and other areas in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, board policies, administrative regulations, and IEP.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain open, positive lines of communication with students and their parents/guardians.
- Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use appropriate and clear communication skills to present information accurately.
- Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in the assigned content area, instructional strategies, and the teaching process.
- Participate in district and campus professional development.
- Show initiative in professional improvement.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other required documents.
- Attend and participate in faculty/staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Demonstrate professional, responsible behavior in compliance with the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Remain informed of and comply with the Irving ISD Employee Handbook and Board Policy.
