Job DescriptionJOB TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION AIDE
WAGE/HOUR STATUS:
Nonexempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
PAY GRADE: Para 030/187 days
JOB GOAL
:
Assist the special education teacher to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self‑help, behavior management, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher and/or diagnostician.
QUALIFICATIONS
:
Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
High School Diploma or GED
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
:
Ability to work well with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
EXPERIENCE
:
Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Copier, facsimile, computer/peripherals, adaptive equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors :
Maintain emotional control under stress
May be required to lift or transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities
Possible exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
