JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: CTE Programming Teacher

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

FUNDING SOURCE: Local

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

PAY GRADE: Professional (187 Days) additional days pending school/assignment

DEPARTMENT: Career and Technical Education

DATE REVISED: July 2026

A Chapter 21 Contract will be issued for this position.

Primary Purpose

To provide students in the Innovative Technology program of study with learning experiences that explore the occupations and educational opportunities associated with programming and implementing computer and information networks. This program of study may also include exploration into analyzing science, engineering, and other data processing problems to implement and improve computer systems.

Qualifications

Minimum

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years recent (within the last 8 years) full time industry working experience
  • Preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned and/or ability to acquire certifications in the subject area required for the program.
    • Computer Science (Grades 8-12)
    • Computer Information Systems (Grades 6-12 or Grades 9-12)
    • Secondary Computer Information Systems (Grades 6-12)
    • Technology Applications (Early Childhood-Grade 12)
    • Technology Applications (Grades 8-12)
    • Trade and Industrial Education (Grades 8-12)

Minimum Experience:

  • 2 years previous teaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Demonstrated competency in the subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Mastery in industry specific software – all Microsoft Office, Python, Java
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent with technology use and actively integrates technology to enhance student learning
  • Strong understanding of career opportunities and skills required for employment in the computer science career field
  • Self‑motivated with excellent work ethic
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Provide students with instruction utilizing experiential learning techniques.
  • Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (i.e., gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.).
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers/staff to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) while working with students in the classroom.
  • Use appropriate technologies to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Participate as an active member of the CTE Advisory Board for Innovative Tech.
  • Participate as a sponsor of a CTE student organization and competitions (Technical Student Association).
Student Growth and Development
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Consistently monitor student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Promote and work with the campus to provide middle schools with information regarding opportunities available through CTE.
