This is a grant funded position. Funds for this position are expected to be available up to the end of the school year. PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Assist the special education teacher to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, personal care needs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Education/Certification:
- Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
- High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Minimum Experience:
- Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities
EQUIPMENT USED: Copier, facsimile, computer/peripherals, adaptive equipment
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. May be required to lift or transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
