Job Summary
The Generator Technician will be responsible for performing power generation equipment preventive maintenance, in‑depth corrective maintenance and complete start‑up testing as assigned. In addition, they will prepare written estimates for recommended corrective repairs noted during any service. The outcome of this position is to provide direct hands‑on maintenance of customer’s power generation equipment in order to support all aspects of the overall service and parts sales associated with the Service Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform troubleshooting on Power Generation equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and load bank testing
- Perform startup commissioning service on new power generation equipment
- Assist customers and dealers with technical support in person or in the field
- Follow instructions and work well with minimal supervision
- Apply knowledge and learning to future, more complex jobs
- Carry out instructions in written or diagram form
- Perform complex problem solving and make logical decisions
- Be self‑motivated
- Transport parts and tools to worksites
- Perform diagnostic testing, pull cable, carrying tools and other items
- Maintain a clean driving record
- Travel as required
- Document all work and repairs clearly and concisely following all documentation procedures
- Assist in preparing complex procedures and documentation required to perform tasks
- Communicate with customers and dealers in the support of generator troubleshooting
- Provide and maintain own hand tools and meters required for core job functions
- Demonstrate sufficient computer knowledge to perform all job junctions
- Follow all safety requirements, including personal protective equipment
- Be available to respond to any emergency calls 24/7
- Perform other duties as required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post‑secondary education in generator engineering, electrical technology, or related field preferred
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools for electrical work
- Familiarity with various types of generators, including diesel, gas, and standby generators
- Valid driver’s license required; additional licenses such as an electrical contractor’s license or generator technician certification preferred
- Good customer service skills, especially when interacting with clients or providing technical support
- Must successfully pass a background investigation, motor‑vehicle check, and drug screen
- Level 0 to Level 1 = 6‑12 months
- Level 1 to Level 2 = 12‑24 months
- Level 2 to Level 3 = 36‑60 months
- Strong communication skills (written, oral, active listening)
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and coworkers

- Adhere to health and safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions promptly
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift and/or move approximately 100 lbs, using team lift or appropriate tools
- Requires close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision; ability to adjust focus
- Regularly stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
- Must communicate verbally and hear regularly
- Walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl frequently
- Occasionally sit for prolonged periods
