Position

This calibration technician role is responsible for performing calibrations on medium to high level test and measurement instrumentation and assisting with general laboratory duties as assigned. The technician should be able to troubleshoot and repair simple malfunctions. The position requires self-motivation and the ability to work with limited guidance. Collateral duties may be assigned as part of the position depending on the individual’s abilities.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and timely turnaround on all equipment and service
  • Perform calibration of medium to high level test and measurement equipment with little supervision
  • Coordinate and lead teams for field calibration and maintenance
  • Seek and provide sales leads whenever possible
  • Create and verify calibration data sheets for technical content and accuracy based on instrument specifications and approved calibration procedures
  • Develop calibration procedures to meet customer needs while supporting traceability of measurements
  • Complete all documentation accurately and efficiently, maintaining a 5% or less discrepancy rate on Quality Documentation Inspection (QDI) and Process Verification Inspection (PVI)
  • Maintain technical proficiency through self-study, college courses, internal training programs, and proficiency testing
  • Perform other laboratory support functions as required in an efficient and orderly manner
  • May assist the Laboratory Manager in training technicians and educating customers when needed
  • May assist Quality Assurance in developing uncertainty budgets
  • Ensure preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment is performed timely
  • Perform daily inspections of incoming equipment to verify accessories and manuals, identify malfunctions, and update equipment status as appropriate
Requirements
  • Military (PMEL) experience or two years of a technical associate degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial or military laboratory experience
  • Basic knowledge of metrology practices and theories, analog and digital circuit analysis
  • Experience calibrating several disciplines of test and measurement equipment used in repair and calibration of electronic, mechanical, acoustical, chemical, thermal and/or dimensional devices
  • Basic troubleshooting and repair capabilities and ability to work on unique equipment with product information
  • Proficient in Windows-based and laboratory automation software
  • Ability to evaluate standards and accreditation scope to determine tool suitability for calibrating M&TE
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 requirements
  • Experience calibrating multiple disciplines:
    Physical, Dimensional, Electronics, Temperature, Pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Internet research and database management
  • Ability to mentor and train others and to communicate effectively with customers
  • Ability to travel up to 40% (local and overnight, as needed)
