What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Utilities is a leading utility construction and services provider supporting critical power infrastructure across North America. We deliver complex transmission, distribution, substation, and renewable projects for public and private utility clients, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and reliable execution.

As Aecon continues to expand its Texas power delivery operations, we are building a dedicated field safety organization to support crews working in dynamic, high‑risk environments. The role, the Safety Advisor, is a field‑based safety professional responsible for supporting day‑to‑day safety execution on transmission and substation projects across Texas. The Safety Advisor reports directly to the Safety Manager and serves as the primary on‑site safety presence, focusing on coaching, compliance, and continuous improvement.

What

You’ll Do Here
  • Provide on‑site safety support for transmission and substation construction activities.
  • Conduct regular field observations, inspections, and audits to identify hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in and support tailboard meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and pre‑task planning.
  • Coach field personnel on safe work practices and behavioral safety expectations.
  • Support implementation of project‑specific safety plans and client safety requirements.
  • Assist with incident and near‑miss investigations, documentation, and corrective actions.
  • Track and maintain safety records, reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Coordinate and support safety‑related training (e.g., OSHA, fall protection, lockout‑tagout, confined space, first aid).
  • Support OSHA and client audits under the direction of the Safety Manager.
  • Promote Aecon’s Safety Program and EHS Management System in the field.
  • Travel regularly to project sites across Texas.
What You Bring To The Team
  • 3–5 years of experience in a field‑based safety role (Safety Advisor, Safety Coordinator, Safety Specialist, or similar), supporting utility construction projects such as transmission, substation, distribution, telecom, or oil & gas.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 regulations and familiarity with construction terminology, means, and methods.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and promote safe work behaviors across field teams.
  • Ability to work independently in the field with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Texas and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Safety certification such as CHST, CSHO, CUSP, CSP, or equivalent (preferred).
  • Prior experience on high‑voltage transmission or substation projects (preferred).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).
  • Experience using digital safety management tools such as Site Docs or similar platforms (preferred).

Aecon fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging within and across our organization. We consider all applicants for positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, mental or physical disabilities, veteran status, and all other characteristics protected by law.

We are committed to adhering to the objectives and requirements outlined in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner, through the implementation of the requirements of the EEOC and its applicable regulations. Appropriate accommodation under the EEOC will be provided upon request throughout the interview and hiring process.
