The Senior Traffic Engineer and Traffic Engineer positions involve managing a diverse range of traffic engineering projects, serving as a contact for the Traffic and Transportation Department for development review (new construction, planning and building permit reviews); ensuring the planning, design and operation of traffic systems to enhance safety, mobility and efficiency; supporting senior staff and mentoring junior engineers and traffic engineering technicians;
authoring/revising technical specifications and design manuals; utilizing advanced expertise in traffic analysis, transportation planning/schematic design, engineering plan review and roadway design; representing the Department in public meetings; and collaborating closely with local agencies, municipalities and other stakeholders.
- Manage a diverse range of traffic engineering projects.
- Serve as contact for the Traffic and Transportation Department for development review (new construction, planning and building permit reviews).
- Ensure planning, design and operation of traffic systems to enhance safety, mobility and efficiency.
- Support senior staff and mentor junior engineers and traffic engineering technicians.
- Author/revise technical specifications and design manuals.
- Utilize advanced expertise in traffic analysis, transportation planning/schematic design, engineering plan review and roadway design.
- Represent the Department in public meetings.
- Collaborate with local agencies, municipalities and other stakeholders.
- Senior Traffic Engineer:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with six years of civil engineering experience, Texas Professional Engineering license (P.E.) with three years of experience as a professional engineer, and a valid state-issued driver’s license. - Traffic Engineer:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with three years of civil engineering experience, Texas Professional Engineering license, and a valid state-issued driver’s license. Previous municipal experience preferred. - A résumé must be submitted with the application.
- Senior Traffic Engineer — Pay Grade EN28;
Full pay range $8,147 - $11,484 per month ($97,764 - $137,808 annually). - Traffic Engineer — Pay Grade EN26;
Full pay range $7,388 - $10,416 per month ($88,656 - $124,992 annually).
The Transportation Department operates and maintains the city’s streets and traffic control devices. The department is split into two divisions:
Streets and Traffic.
The Streets Division provides safe and well-maintained streets, alleys, sidewalks and drainage facilities. The Traffic Division plans, operates and maintains the transportation systems within the city of Irving in a safe, efficient and proactive manner.
