Generation Analyst supports QTS’ Energy Strategy Team by building data sets to analyze comparable DC+OSG transactions, capital costs, equipment pricing, market data, etc. across power and energy infrastructure technologies (e.g., CCCTs, BESS, recips., etc.). The role develops LCOE benchmarking models and cost intelligence that inform hyperscale campus siting, utility engagement, power / natural gas procurement strategies and long-term capital planning.
Collect pricing, performance, and technical data for generation and energy infrastructure equipment, including turbines, engines, generators, fuel cells, storage systems, balance-of-plant and related maintenance costs into a Total Cost to Own (TCO) view.
Track OEM pricing updates, supply-chain conditions, commodity drivers, manufacturing cycle / slots, and technology developments relevant to hyperscale datacenter deployments.
Source data from supplier quotes, RFQs/RFPs, EPC proposals, public disclosures, industry reports, and QTS historical project data.
Build and maintain cost benchmarks across generation technologies (gas, solar, storage, diesel) used to support energy decisions.
Analyze cost variation by size, configuration, region, interconnection scope, vendor, and procurement strategy.
Normalize cost data for comparison across geographies, vintages, and project structures.
Support LCOE, capex/opex modeling, and long-term cost forecasts aligned with QTS load growth and campus development timelines.
Monitor forward markets for key model inputs including natural gas & power
Analyze forward curves, volatility, and basis impacts on generation economics and delivered power costs.
Translate commodity outlooks into escalation assumptions, sensitivities, and procurement timing insights.
Integrate commodity market signals into energy strategy models and capital planning tools.
Maintain structured databases of vendor pricing, capital cost benchmarks, and procurement history.
Ensure data quality through validation, normalization, and version control.
Develop dashboards and automated refresh processes to support recurring energy strategy models
Partner with Energy Strategy, Utility Engagement, Procurement, Finance, and Development teams to validate assumptions and align inputs.
Support supplier negotiations with cost curves, benchmarks, and market-based pricing analysis.
Prepare concise executive materials summarizing pricing trends, risks, and cost outlooks.
Produce recurring OSG transaction analyses, benchmarking reports and cost indices used in energy strategy, site diligence, and procurement decisions.
Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses to inform sourcing strategy, contract structures, and timing.
Develop clear visualizations for use in planning, forecasting, and executive presentations.
BS degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Business, Data Analytics, or related field.
2–4 years of experience in cost analysis, procurement, energy markets, or equipment benchmarking.
Strong quantitative skills; advanced Excel required;
Power BI or similar preferred.Familiarity with utility-scale generation and energy infrastructure technologies preferred.
Experience supporting RFQs/RFPs, EPC cost estimation, or large-scale vendor engagement a plus.
