Position: Project Engineer, Power Systems — Lead Projects (30% Travel)

Department: Power Systems Division (PSD)

Location: Irving

Description

The Project Engineer is responsible for the success of Power Generation Projects from the initiation phase through startup and commissioning. The role serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, developing and executing project milestones, managing budgets, and providing technical support to all PSD customers.

Key practices include alignment with the company’s mission and values, collaborating with key resources, and ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions
  • Model, promote, reinforce and reward the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Analyze and assist sales representatives in preparing competitive engine project cost estimates.
  • Evaluate, prioritize and implement project work plans to optimize customer satisfaction and company profitability.
  • Estimate resources, establish clear ownership for project tasks, and ensure team members have necessary tools and timely feedback.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships vital to project success, proactively communicating expectations, status, issues and risks to management.
  • Provide technical resources to remove roadblocks and support PSD customers and stakeholders.
  • Track progress, assess issues and identify solutions to meet deadlines while maintaining productivity, quality and customer goals.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  • Conduct project post-mortems and create recommendations reports to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Exercise safe work practices and comply with all company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Perform other duties assigned to the role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of project engineering practices, procedures and processes.
  • Proficiency with computer and related software, including MS Office and MS Project.
  • Knowledge of basic office practices, procedures and processes.
  • Ability to use data visualization tools to report timelines and project updates.
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish relationships with multiple departments at various levels.
  • Time-management and prioritization skills.
  • Adaptability to work on multiple projects collaboratively.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
  • Six or more years of experience in planning, scheduling and/or project management; heavy equipment or construction management experience preferred.

Travel
  • Up to 30%.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform tasks with required manual dexterity, coordination and stamina, including occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
  • Work primarily stationary with occasional standing, walking, kneeling, crouching and stooping.
  • React to visual, auditory and other signals and perform visual inspections.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights as needed.
Work Environment
  • Professional office environment with occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
