Position Overview
Under the direction of the Plant Continuous Improvement Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible for driving process reliability improvement and waste reduction through documentation of best operating practices. The key objective is to reduce variation in operating methods, improving reliability and repeatability. The Process Engineer leads technician teams to standardize processes and procedures across processing, packaging, maintenance, and engineering departments, ensuring formal change processes are followed.
Responsibilities- Provide process engineering support and project engineering guidance to filling, processing and support departments.
- Lead a team of technicians to create and maintain standard documentation across departments; apply best practices and ensure approvals.
- Develop Department Operating Procedures, line machinery training manuals, SOPs, Standard Control Procedures, baseline audit sheets, changeover documents, shutdown/startup procedures, cleaning procedures, line capability.
- Document new projects and maintain documents annually.
- Collaborate with Project Engineering to standardize vendor and contractor documentation to aid plant staff training.
- Coach and develop technicians, forming teams for defect/loss or projects.
- Focus on cost reduction, process improvements, engineering service requests, and recommend process capital improvements and automation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
- Minimum of one year of relevant production or engineering experience; co‑op or internship experience considered.
- Proficiency in statistical methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Word).
- Demonstrated leadership, influence, and professional maturity.
- Effective oral and written communication, ability to present ideas without formal authority.
- Good judgment in high‑pressure situations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and days to meet business demands.
- Experience collaborating in team‑based environments.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with SAP, Adobe Acrobat Writer, PLC, CAD systems and shop‑floor integration.
- Knowledge of plant operations, packaging and processing equipment.
- Experience developing and writing procedures with cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to lead and coach teams to solve problems, multitask, deliver continuous improvement initiatives, establish operating procedures and downtime monitoring systems.
