About The Role Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional looking to move beyond a standard SEC department toward building an SEC reporting function? Orion
180 is seeking a Senior SEC Reporting Analyst to be a core contributor in building our public reporting function. You will support the end-to-end financial reporting lifecycle, assist with the preparation of SEC filings, and document a robust internal control environment. This is a ground-floor opportunity to develop highly marketable technical skills in a fast-growing insurance organization.

You will support the buildout of an SEC reporting function, including a SOX-compliant internal controls environment and continuous process improvement leveraging a modern technology stack.

What You’ll Do

  • SEC Filings:
    Assist in drafting registration statements, periodic reports (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K, Proxy) and other SEC compliance documents.
  • Workpaper Management:
    Prepare detailed supporting work papers and financial statement tie-out binders to ensure the accuracy of all public disclosures.
  • Technical Accounting Support:
    Research complex accounting issues and new FASB/SEC pronouncements; draft technical memos for GAAP compliance.
  • Financial Statements:
    Prepare consolidated financial statements, including cash flows, equity statements, and comprehensive footnote disclosures.
  • XBRL Oversight:
    Perform initial validation of interactive data (XBRL) for required SEC filings.
  • Internal Controls:
    Assist SEC reporting team and Big 4 Internal Audit consultants in building and executing internal controls over financial reporting to ensure SOX compliance.
  • Audit Coordination:
    Prepare audit schedules and provide necessary documentation to external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Variance Analysis:
    Partner with FP&A and Investor Relations to support monthly and quarterly flux analysis for MD&A insights.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

    Partner with various teams to support and validate financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, and public disclosures.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; CPA license or progress toward CPA and Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience:

    2–4 years of progressive accounting experience, specifically in SEC reporting in a fast-paced environment or public accounting (Big 4 preferred).
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Foundational understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. Exposure to insurance statutory accounting or internal control frameworks is a plus.
  • Systems & Tools:
    Proficiency in Excel required; experience with Workiva preferred. Proficiency in other SEC reporting software will be considered.
  • Analytical

    Skills:

    High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet regulatory deadlines.
  • Communication:
    Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally with Accounting, FP&A and business operations.
  • Organization:
    Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables.
