Role Overview
The Vice President, Underwriter leads credit decisions for the Industrials team in Irving, TX, overseeing asset‑based and structured commercial lending relationships. The position serves as a senior individual contributor with delegated credit authority, partnering with Relationship Managers and ensuring underwriting quality, portfolio risk management, and disciplined execution.
Key Responsibilities- Lead underwriting for new and existing asset‑based lending relationships, ensuring sound credit decisions and policy compliance.
- Prepare and approve detailed credit memoranda outlining business rationale, key risks, mitigants, and structure.
- Analyze borrower performance, collateral quality, and cash‑flow sustainability across complex capital structures.
- Conduct in‑depth financial analysis, including trend, ratio, and cash‑flow analysis, and evaluate guarantors, co‑borrowers, and sponsor support.
- Perform industry, market, and geographic analysis to inform underwriting decisions.
- Oversee portfolio monitoring through monthly, quarterly, and annual reviews, track covenant compliance, collateral metrics, and identify early warning indicators.
- Recommend mitigation strategies for emerging credit concerns.
- Partner with internal teams and external counsel to ensure approved credit terms are reflected accurately in documentation.
- Support amendments, renewals, and modifications from underwriting through closing.
- Serve as a credit thought partner to Relationship Managers and product teams, providing leadership and governance.
- Mentor and develop junior Credit Officers and analysts.
- Maintain compliance with internal policies and regulatory expectations to support audit and exam readiness.
- 5‑8 years of credit underwriting, portfolio, or risk management experience within a multinational financial services organization.
- Proven analytical skills in assessing financial statements, cash flow, industry/competitive analysis, and projections, including complex structures with foreign subsidiaries.
- Strong knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its application in credit underwriting.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and detail‑oriented skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive problem‑recognition and resolution abilities, working autonomously and within a team.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, and financial analysis software.
- Ability to handle complex issues with substantial impact, weighing alternatives and balancing conflicting needs.
- Latitude and discretion in decision making, with significant impact on the function and overall performance.
