Credit Analyst, Risk Manager/Analyst
Citi is looking for a Commercial Credit Officer to take ownership of credit underwriting and portfolio management within its rapidly growing US Commercial Bank, serving mid-to-large companies with revenues from $100 million to $3 billion. In this role, you will sit at the center of the lending process - assessing credit risk, structuring financing solutions, and partnering directly with relationship bankers and independent risk teams to deliver best-in-class outcomes for clients.
Your decisions will directly shape the credit quality and performance of a significant commercial lending portfolio for the Digital, Technology & Communications (DTC) vertical.
- Manage the end-to-end credit underwriting process for new and existing commercial relationships, from initial pre-screening and credit appetite assessment through to approval, documentation, and ongoing portfolio oversight.
- Assess the creditworthiness of commercial borrowers by conducting detailed financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, trend, and ratio analysis, and evaluating complex business structures including those with international subsidiaries.
- Prepare comprehensive written credit analyses that articulate the financing need, key risk factors, structural considerations, and a well-supported credit recommendation.
- Monitor existing borrowers through monthly and quarterly financial reviews, tracking covenant compliance, identifying early warning indicators, and escalating emerging concerns to relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee the loan documentation process for new transactions and amendments, coordinating with internal partners and external legal counsel to ensure all approval terms are accurately reflected in closing documents.
- Maintain regulatory compliance across the portfolio by ensuring accurate risk ratings, appropriate classification, and adherence to all applicable credit policies and regulatory frameworks.
- Mentor and develop junior credit professionals, sharing technical expertise and contributing to training initiatives that build credit skills across the wider commercial banking team.
- 5+ years of credit underwriting and portfolio management experience within a commercial or corporate banking environment focused on technology companies, with a background operating within regulatory and compliance policy frameworks.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial statements, cash flow positions, and technology industry-specific performance metrics for companies with sophisticated or multi-entity structures.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and their practical application in a credit underwriting context.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously, meet deadlines consistently, and maintain accuracy in a fast-moving environment.
- Clear and confident communicator, able to present credit views and engage constructively with relationship managers, risk teams, senior stakeholders, and external counter parties.
- Skilled at identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex credit issues, balancing risk considerations with commercial objectives to reach sound conclusions.
- Proficient in Excel and Word, including financial modelling, enterprise valuation, data presentation, and the use of analytical tools to support credit decisions.
Skills & Qualifications
- A Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in finance, business, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with a broad range of commercial lending and related products, including working capital facilities, term loans, acquisition finance, trade finance, and derivatives.
- Experience contributing to or leading process improvement initiatives that have measurably enhanced credit workflow efficiency or controls.
- A hybrid working arrangement with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, giving you flexibility alongside meaningful in-person collaboration.
- Direct exposure to a wide range of complex financing transactions across a specialist industry vertical, deepening your expertise and broadening your technical skill set.
- The opportunity to take ownership of high-profile credit decisions and represent your portfolio in senior internal forums, building your visibility and professional influence.
- A structured environment for career progression, with the ability to contribute to US and global strategic initiatives and help shape the future direction of commercial credit at Citi.
- Access to Citi's global network, connecting you with colleagues and clients across markets and business lines to expand your professional reach.
- Wellbeing and financial benefits in line with Citi's commitment to supporting employees across all stages of their careers and personal lives.
