Position: Community Housing Inspector

Overview

The City of Irving’s Housing and Redevelopment division helps provide housing-related and social services to stabilize neighborhoods and to help reduce the effects of poverty on Irving residents through HUD funds.

Responsibilities
  • Duties include completing detailed property assessments and work plans for grant funded home restoration projects and housing construction, including site visits and dialogue with owners.
  • Conducting walk through events for project bidding processes.
  • Supervising general contractors, sub-contractors, builders, and/or developers (including CHDOs) via telephone and site visits, and assisting them in following city processes, ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Resolving conflicts between contractors and homeowners.
  • Ensuring compliance with rehab policies and lead regulations by following HUD guidelines.
  • Conducting lead based paint risk assessments and clearance tests.
  • Coordinating timely completion of emergency repair work that threatens life, health, and/or safety of owners.
  • Conducting Housing Quality Standard inspections where necessary.
  • Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, plus some vocational or technical training related to construction methods or building inspections, and a minimum of three years relevant experience plus lead-based paint certification or the ability to obtain within one year.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Pay

PAY GRADE GG19 / FULL PAY RANGE $28.05 - $39.55 PER HOUR
