Microbiologist
Location: Irving, TX
Contract: 6–12 months
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $25–$30 per hour, dependent upon level of experience
Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Microbiologist for a contract opportunity in Irving, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail‑oriented laboratory professional to perform microbiological testing, maintain laboratory equipment and documentation, and support day‑to‑day laboratory operations.
Position OverviewThe Microbiologist will be responsible for performing microbiological testing of water samples, documenting and reporting results, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with established laboratory procedures and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Perform microbiological testing of water samples, including plating, incubation, reading, interpretation, and reporting of results.
- Accurately enter and maintain laboratory testing data within LIMS or other laboratory information systems.
- Perform routine laboratory maintenance, including sanitizing work surfaces and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Autoclave biological waste and ensure proper disposal in accordance with laboratory safety procedures.
- Maintain instrument logbooks for laboratory equipment, including incubators and pipettes.
- Ensure equipment calibrations are completed and properly documented according to established schedules.
- Maintain, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels and order laboratory consumables and supplies to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.
- Follow all laboratory safety, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with troubleshooting testing procedures and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related scientific field preferred; equivalent laboratory experience may be considered.
- Laboratory experience through professional employment, internships, or practical coursework.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality results.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point .
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow established procedures and maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Experience with microbiological testing techniques and aseptic laboratory practices.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, equipment calibration, and documentation requirements.
- Experience working with LIMS or similar laboratory software.
- Understanding of laboratory safety and compliance practices.
- Laboratory-based position requiring standing, walking, and handling laboratory equipment and materials.
- May require lifting and moving laboratory supplies and consumables.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in accordance with laboratory safety requirements.
