Temporary Leave Of Absence Specialist

We are seeking a seasoned Leave Of Absence Specialist to join the HR/Benefits team on a temporary basis. This individual will take ownership of leave administration while also providing hands-on support for employee benefits and annual open enrollment.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, has strong knowledge of leave regulations and benefits administration, and can quickly step into a fast-paced environment with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the end-to-end leave of absence process, including documentation, tracking, and employee communication.
  • Advise employees and managers on leave eligibility, requirements, and benefits.
  • Research and apply federal and state leave regulations, including FMLA and accommodation requirements.
  • Administer employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Maintain accurate benefits and leave records in HRIS and benefits platforms.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding benefits, coverage, claims, and enrollment.
  • Support annual open enrollment activities, communications, and system updates.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and coordinate with payroll on deduction issues.
  • Partner with carriers, brokers, and third-party vendors to resolve benefits concerns.
  • Assist with compliance, audits, reporting, and benefits documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
  • Qualifications:

    • 5+ years of professional benefits experience, including substantial experience administering leaves of absence.
    • Strong working knowledge of leave programs and benefits administration.
    • Ability to independently manage a workload and quickly assume ownership of assigned responsibilities.
    • Associate's or bachelor's degree required.
    • Understanding of payroll processes, employment regulations, and labor compliance.
    • Experience using HRIS and benefits administration platforms.
    • Previous experience working with insurance carriers, brokers, or third-party benefits vendors.
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data analysis and reconciliations.
    • Multi-state benefits or leave administration experience strongly preferred.
    • Bilingual Spanish/English skills are a plus.
    • Experience in construction, engineering, or other project-based industries is preferred.
