About the role

As a GCP Lead
, you will make an impact by driving the planning, execution, and delivery of complex, enterprise‑scale data engineering initiatives. You will be a valued member of the Data Engineering team and collaborate closely with architects, developers, QA teams, and business stakeholders to build scalable, high‑quality data solutions aligned to organizational needs.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of advanced data engineering solutions leveraging GCP, Python, HDFS, Pydoop, and Big Query.
  • Guide cross‑functional teams to ensure adherence to engineering standards, SDLC best practices, and Agile methodologies.
  • Perform complex SQL development, optimization, and debugging across large distributed systems.
  • Drive data profiling, validation, analysis, and quality checks to ensure reliable and trusted data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across business and technology teams to understand requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions.
Work model:
Hybrid (preferred) / Remote (acceptable)

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2–3 days per week in a client or Cognizant office in Irving, TX or Hartford, CT

What you need to have to be considered
  • 10+ years of hands‑on experience in Python and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Strong expertise writing, tuning, debugging, and interpreting complex SQL queries and stored procedures in multi‑tier distributed environments.
  • Experience with scheduling tools such as Autosys or similar.
  • Strong skills in data profiling, data analysis, and data validation
    .
  • Deep knowledge of DBMS platforms such as Oracle, Teradata, and SQL Server.
  • Advanced understanding of data warehousing concepts
    , including ETL and change data capture (CDC).
  • Experience working in Agile environments with a strong understanding of SDLC processes and documentation standards.
  • Experience documenting test scripts and test plans
    .
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional and high‑performing teams.
  • Eagerness to learn and adopt emerging technologies.
  • Experience in the Healthcare industry.
These will help you stand out
  • Experience leading onsite/offshore technical teams in data engineering or cloud data environments.
  • Hands‑on expertise with PySpark or other distributed compute frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of cloud cost optimization, data governance, or performance tuning at scale.
  • Exposure to GCP components such as Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, or Cloud Composer.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD automation for data pipelines.

Salary and Other Compensation

The annual salary for this position is between $ 98,000 - $ 115,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
