The Business Intelligence Developer partners with Business Intelligence Analysts to understand business processes, reporting requirements, key performance indicators, and analytical needs. The role works closely with Data Engineering teams to map source data and define requirements necessary to transform enterprise data from Bronze through Gold medallion architecture within Microsoft Fabric. Using governed Gold data, the Business Intelligence Developer designs and develops reusable enterprise semantic models that translate technical data structures into business-ready analytical data products with standardized relationships, measures, calculations, definitions, metadata, and business context.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily:

  • Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values;
  • Collaborate with key internal/external resources;
  • Participate in ongoing self-development.

    • Validates Gold data against documented business requirements and source-system logic before incorporating data into governed semantic models
    • Designs, develops, deploys, and maintains enterprise semantic models within Microsoft Fabric
    • Develops and maintains DAX measures and standardized business calculations to ensure consistent calculation of enterprise metrics and key performance indicators
    • Adds business context to semantic models through clear naming conventions, descriptions, metadata, relationships, hierarchies, formatting, and documented business definitions
    • Develops reusable enterprise semantic models that can support multiple downstream reports, dashboards, applications, and analytical use cases rather than creating report-specific data solutions when enterprise reuse is appropriate
    • Designs semantic model architecture that allows specialized downstream semantic models to extend governed enterprise models for specific business or operational use cases
    • Optimizes semantic models for performance, scalability, usability, security, and maintainability
