Join Irving ISD as a Custodian Night Lead to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient school environment.

Primary Purpose

Ensure building and grounds are cleaned by using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: 3–4 years of custodial experience or six months of preferred experience in custodial services
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures; aptitude for task completion; demonstrated ability to coordinate personnel; broad knowledge of school housekeeping and minor repair techniques; ability to operate and train in cleaning equipment and proper use of cleaning supplies; ability to speak, read, and write English; bilingual Spanish preferred
Major Responsibilities And Duties Custodial Management
  • Work cooperatively with principals and supervisors to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  • Daily coordinate and plan with the Custodian Building Manager to determine building needs.
  • Supervise custodial staff, oversee team cleaning, and ensure daily cleaning of buildings and grounds.
  • Provide training and orientation to custodians related to cleaning procedures and the safe and proper use of chemicals and equipment.
Maintenance and Inspection
  • Inspect buildings for graffiti, broken or cracked windows, damaged exterior doors, cracked or loose bricks, plugged down spouts, and foundation concerns; report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate.
  • Inspect interior and gym for damaged, missing, or broken hardware, partitions, ceiling tiles, structural ceiling, floor tiles, entrance doors, carpet or floor tile, cabinet hinges, boards, and closet doors; report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate.
  • Assist in performing preventive maintenance to ensure comfort, health, and safety for students and staff.
  • Assist in maintaining a cleaning supplies and equipment inventory and request supplies as needed.
Other Responsibilities
  • Assume manager duties and work schedule in the absence of the Building Manager.
  • Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours).
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior; serve as a role model for staff, students, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety
  • Assist with opening and closing building as assigned, checking to ensure that exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly during hours of occupancy.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques for lifting, climbing, operating tools, and correcting unsafe conditions.
  • Contribute to accident and injury prevention by observing safety rules, practicing safety training principles, wearing personal protective equipment, reporting injuries, and participating in ongoing safety improvements.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise custodial staff.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Tools/Equipment Used: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, hand tools; buffer, stripper, wet/dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer, cleaning chemicals.
Posture: frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting.
Motion: frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching.
Lifting: up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30–55 pounds with assistance, and >55 pounds with appropriate assistance on a daily basis.
Environment: work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven surfaces, exposure to hot/cold temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals, noise, vibration, and occasional irregular hours.
