The Maintenance Assistant Manager leads and manages the maintenance supervisors, technicians and team and is responsible for the effective utilization of the maintenance team to address plant processes, equipment, and facility upkeep. With a “One Team, One Mission” approach, this position collaborates across all shifts and with multiple departments (Utilities, Production, Planning, Safety) to support consistent production, minimize downtime, and enforce HACCP, USDA, and food safety protocol, all while providing continued growth opportunities to our team members.

• Manages the highly diversified activities of Maintenance teams and Apprentices, to track performance of the teams, planned repairs/projects, and preventative maintenance. Empowers supervisors and all maintenance team members to meet and exceed maintenance standards.
• Ensures effective response to line breakdowns. Leads team that investigates and completes failure analysis on work order challenges and works through appropriate actions with teams to prevent future breakdowns.
• Provides a safe environment for continued growth. Mentors and motivates associates, providing training and development to optimize their performance and personal growth. Communicates performance standards to associates, recognizing and rewarding individual and team accomplishments and counseling performance problems. Ensures all associates have the resources and capabilities to effectively accomplish their responsibilities.
• Assists with new projects: provides cost estimates, scope of work, time frame, warranties, etc. and provides monthly progress reports.
• Ensures compliance of company policies and procedures: safety regulations, GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP and SQF. Member of HACCP Team.
• Provides back‑up support to Maintenance / Utilities Manager and Supervisors: fills in for manager during absences and rotates weekend PM coverage for supervisors as needed. Provides cross‑functional support with the utilities department.

• Seven or more years’ experience in an Industrial Mechanics/related position OR an Industrial Mechanics’ degree/equivalent technical diploma and 5 years plant maintenance experience.
• 5 years in a leadership and/or project management role.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including professional oral and written communication, a team‑focused approach, and the ability to model composure/make decisions in stressful situations.
• After one year the position requires achieving operator 1 certification from an Ammonia Refrigeration training center.
• After 3 years the position requires achieving operator 2 certification from an Ammonia Refrigeration training center.
• After 5 years the position requires filling in for Utilities Supervisors as needed.

• Regulatory compliance knowledge, including USDA regulations, HACCP, GMP and Food Safety (SQF).
• Strong computerized maintenance management system knowledge.

This position will manage Maintenance supervisors and 10‑20 Maintenance team members at the Irving facility.

Primarily office environment, with requirement to work in wide variations in environment temperature (−40° freezer, 32° cooler, 40° production area, wet cold environment); noise, slippery floors and moving equipment in operations setting.

Position will include extensive standing, sitting, lifting, climbing ladders, wearing factory‑required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds and driving.

This is an exempt role; may be asked to change schedule and work ‘off’-shifts.

Some travel may be required in this position to assist in other facilities (Less than 5%).
