About the Role

Director, Project Controls – responsible for overseeing pre‑construction estimating and multiple onsite cost control teams across large‑scale construction and infrastructure projects from inception to completion. Ensure financial discipline, effective project control for cost, schedule, and risk, and alignment with project and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor the pre‑construction estimating team and onsite cost teams, setting site‑specific and customer‑specific development cost budgets.
  • Provide direction to enforce strict adherence to project control processes and ensure alignment across the portfolio.
  • Oversee accurate creation and validation of project budgets for large‑scale construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Monitor financial performance throughout the project lifecycle, identify and implement strategies to enhance accuracy and achieve cost savings.
  • Ensure project controls team enforces strict compliance with construction contract documents and change‑management practices.
  • Oversee cost estimating, forecasting, and actionable insights for senior leadership to ensure financial alignment and project success.
  • Report on vendor, subcontractor, and contractor performance related to financial risks, compliance, and contractual terms.
  • Facilitate regular communication with development leadership, accounting, finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare financial reporting templates, cash‑flow analysis, schedule analysis, and monthly project reviews.
  • Lead risk management, maintain risk mitigation logs, and advise on mitigation strategies from inception to completion.
  • Develop and implement training and mentorship initiatives to build cost‑control capabilities across the team.
  • Maintain third‑party relationships (cost auditing, change management, schedule consultants) and ensure consistent application of company policies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Eight or more years of experience in project controls, construction, or project management with at least five years in a senior or leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in project controls, construction contract documents, change‑management, and budget/schedule control processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial and project management software (e.g., Workday, e‑Builder, Autodesk Construction Cloud, P6, Oracle).
  • Proven ability to lead teams, provide detailed financial forecasts, track costs, and manage budgets through all project stages.
  • Experience establishing new processes and policies across a broad portfolio and cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with a track record of fostering collaboration and driving performance improvement.
  • Preferred:
    Master’s degree or certifications such as PMP, CCP, or similar; ten or more years in a leadership role; advanced knowledge of industry‑specific regulations.
