Overview
The primary responsibility of the Director Routing & Logistics (DRL) is to increase the profitability of the Services & Solutions organization. The DRL leads the Routing & Logistics team in providing efficient and cost‑effective logistics routing to drive on‑time service for customers.
Key Characteristics- Strategic Focus – Resolves problems effectively through distribution and data analysis expertise.
- Distribution Excellence – Applies processes, technology and tools that ensure the optimal distribution of services from branches to customers in terms of cost and value.
- Communication – Communicates complex technical information clearly and concisely to audiences with varying technical aptitude.
- Customer Service – Inspires a customer‑service focused culture for internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee all aspects of service routing using Omnitracs technology for approximately 400 routes, providing about 1,700 services per day.
- Lead and develop the logistics team, adhering to core values:
Customer Service, Safety & Compliance, Commitment to the Environment, and Continuous Improvement. - Measure daily performance against key performance indicators and drive improvement, focusing on order density and miles per stop.
- Maximize on‑time performance while minimizing missed services through creative routing and resource management.
- Partner with IT and Operations to implement and exploit routing technology and ERP systems.
- Develop metrics to measure productivity, service, and expenses, continuously improving those metrics.
- Collaborate with Field Operations leadership to identify opportunities, recommend best practices, and implement plans to enhance operations and regional performance.
- Analyze areas for improvement in routing—including customer service windows, resource needs, route efficiency, fill rates, and overtime reduction—and work with senior leadership to remove obstacles.
- Improve department initiatives through process simplification and effective communication across functional departments.
- Lead the company’s continuous improvement efforts to drive operational efficiency and customer responsiveness through routing optimization and future service‑management technology.
- Expertise in data gathering, manipulation, and interpretation to support business planning and strategy.
- Deep knowledge of routing practices and software.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and data mining skills.
- Demonstrated business and financial acumen.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong bias for action and self‑motivation.
- Ability to lead and motivate a high‑performance team.
- Leadership experience in routing and logistics with knowledge of transportation routing systems, preferably Omnitracs.
- College graduate (BS) in business, supply chain, operations management, or related major.
- Advanced degree is a plus.
- Experience with data mining is a plus.
- No special physical requirements.
- General office conditions.
- Some light lifting and bending.
- Periods of sitting.
- Moderate travel (up to 25%).
