Director of Payroll — Full Time, Salary position.

What to Expect
We are seeking a Director of Payroll to lead a team of payroll specialists who manage and process payroll for multiple K-12 clients. The Director of Payroll serves as an expert on local, state, and federal requirements related to payroll processing for school districts and non-profit agencies, including pre- and post-payroll processing. You will define company-wide payroll standards, implement best-practice standards with clients, and collaborate with internal and external staff to resolve issues.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Directly supervise a team of payroll professionals providing leadership, mentoring, development opportunities, and acting as a senior technical resource for escalations.
- Implement payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Oversee the onboarding of new clients, including benefit and salary setup.
- Train team and, as needed, perform payroll reconciliations including benefit reconciliations, payroll tax, and other liability accounts for multiple clients.
- Oversee and manage internal audits of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, pay rates, and payoff reviews.
- Manage team through payroll bank file uploads ensuring proper controls are maintained.
- Prepare and submit payroll reports and forms, including those required by IRS, TWC, Texas Retirement System (TRS), other statutory deductions, etc.
- Build out reports for clients identifying comparable analysis of beneficial payroll information.
- Establish best practices and employee SOP cadences for the payroll team.
- Develop team structure on sharing best practices, workload transition, and hiring documentation.
- Orchestrate procedures for the storage of physical and computerized files, including payroll records.
- Assist with audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Communicate with Human Resources, district staff, and employees to ensure accuracy of information reported; resolve payroll problems and inquiries.
- Serve as a backup to payroll specialists, process payrolls as needed, and respond to escalated client requests.

- 7+ Years Experience
- Comfortable with working on-site 4 days a week and in an open seating environment
- Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, HR, or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in non-profit fund accounting preferred.
- Charter School, Education sector experience a plus.
- Experience with Ascender, Sage, and Skyward systems a plus.
- Strong knowledge of payroll files and forms including agency filings and bank submissions.
- Previous experience with TRS is strongly preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and speak effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability and/or willingness to learn to use and understand Microsoft Office for spreadsheets, letters, and other written communication in order to effectively communicate information with employees, administration, and the Board.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
