Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas is hiring a PRN Registered Nurse to join our Operating Room team.

The Perioperative RN provides quality patient care using the nursing process, the medical plan of care, and organizational policies. The Perioperative RN provides safe, effective, and quality patient‑family centered care in the perioperative services for all patient populations. The ideal candidate will work in all areas:
Pre Op, Operating Room and PACU.

• Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative department
• Assess the status of patients’ health in pre‑op and ensure accuracy of identification wristband
• Ensure that operative and informed consents are in order
• Determine the surgeon and procedure being carried out
• Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
• Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure and attending medical staff

• Provides nursing care and service during surgery cases.
• Responsible for positioning the patient, prepping the patient, and circulating the case.
• Focused on excellent customer service, ability to multi‑task, flexibility in assignments, maintain scrupulous infection control standards, maintain professional competencies and work as part of an interdependent multidisciplinary team.

• Assess patients’ condition after surgery has been performed.
• Ensure all vitals are within normal range.
• Log all findings in patients’ files.
• Answer patients’ questions and keep them comfortable.
• Ensure all IVs are in check.
• Develop individualized care plans based on each patient’s condition.
• Ensure all nursing activities are carried out according to the individual patient care plan.
• Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the doctor.
• Initiate patient education programs to ensure patients and families are educated on procedures and medications.
• Determine when patients are ready to be moved to their rooms.
• Perform intervention duties in cases of post‑operative emergencies.
• Record sedation levels and body temperature.
• Manage blood and fluid transfusions and draw specimens.
• Ensure the post‑operative space is clean and sanitized.
• Change bandages and dress surgical wounds.

• Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the state.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• 2‑5 years of experience in Pre Op/PACU or Critical Care.
• At least 1 year of experience in the Operating Room.
• Current BLS, ALS, and PALS certification.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient.
• Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions of the patient when needed.
• Excellent team player with ability to communicate with staff, patients, and physicians.
• Preferred:
  Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center.
