ResponsibilitiesThe Staff Licensed Vocational Nurse renders professional nursing care pursuant to the objective and policies of the Centre. Work can be part-time or full-time as needed during the weekdays with some overtime and on-call work required. Work is performed at the clinic with some work in the community and residential site. A staff LVN will work directly under the supervision of the Nursing Department Coordinator or staff RN's but utilize all nursing skills to make safe, appropriate and independent decisions within the scope of the LVN nursing practice.
Shift: Full time, 10am-10pm / 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per week)
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patient.
- Conducts visits at residential site to assess patient's medical status, administer or supervise medication and perform treatment procedures. Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and repeated stair climbing.
- Assists with weekly and/or bi-monthly medical staffings.
- Works on-call shifts as required. Demonstrates flexibility with regards to patient census, staffing needs and scheduling.
- Keeps Nursing Department informed of all patient concerns and treatment course.
- Performs reporting procedures.
- Provides for the safety of patients, visitors, staff and self when interacting with patients who may have behavioral outbursts, which can include yelling, exiting, hitting, kicking, biting, spitting, scratching, and throwing objects.
- Performs toilet and chair transfers with assistance for patients up to 150 pounds utilizing approved transfer techniques. Transfer techniques include standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. Patients requiring moderate to maximum assistance are lifted and/or transferred by two or more persons.
Successful candidates will have:
- Passion for Care: A deep understanding of the requirements for providing the type of care and supervision needed, including the ability to communicate effectively with them.
- Leadership Skills:
The ability to recruit, employ, train, and evaluate qualified staff, and to make tough decisions when necessary.
- Educational Background:
Current licensure by State Board of Nursing. - Specialized Knowledge:
Experience in skilled nursing and rehabilitation concepts preferred. Maintain CPR certification. Valid driver's license required.
