Twelve Hills Nature Center is a 5 acre pocket prairie in N. Oak Cliff, in Dallas, TX. Volunteers help weed areas, water plants and install plants. There are a variety of activities that can be matched to volunteers fitness levels.
More Details Volunteers help maintain and create a Blackland Prairie ecosystem, the plant community present in Dallas before development. Twelve Hills is used to teach school children and the community about the natural world. It serves as an outdoor classroom for nearby schools. It is a refuge for native Blackland Prairie plants that have decreasing amounts of habitat as well as the insects, birds, reptiles and animals they support.
There is a half mile trail where visitors can enjoy a peaceful walk in nature. Volunteers help maintain Twelve Hills Nature Center, including the butterfly garden and Blackland Prairie areas. This might involve weeding, digging, installing plants or watering plants. Please bring water and a snack. Please wear sun protection including a hat and sunscreen. Light-weight clothing with long sleeves, long pants, socks and closed-toe shoes provides protection from insects, plants and rocky ground.
Bring work gloves if possible.
