Position: Chercheur/chercheuse - Sociologie du service et de la vente de luxe (H/F)

Researcher Position in Luxury Sales Sector

The researcher will conduct, individually and collectively, an investigation on salespeople in the luxury sector in the Paris region. This investigation will integrate into a sociological reflection on the internationalization of class relations at work.

The researcher recruited will contribute to all stages of the investigation, from field preparation to the valorization of results. They will conduct interviews and observations in the luxury sales sector in Paris and participate in the animation of a collective investigation by accompanying and mentoring students. They will also participate in the analysis of qualitative data collected and in the writing of the project's scientific deliverables.

Finally, they will contribute to the design of a survey questionnaire on international work practices, by participating in the definition of themes, the elaboration of questions, and the structuring of the survey tool.

This position offers the opportunity to invest in a collective research project, to develop expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, and to contribute to work on contemporary transformations of work in a stimulating and collaborative research environment.

Work context:
The Centre Maurice Halbwachs was created on January 1, 2006, and settled in the same year 2006 on its current site at the campus of the École Normale Supérieure de Paris, 48 Boulevard Jourdan. It results from the merger of a laboratory formerly specialized in the provision of INSEE surveys and the analysis of longitudinal data (LASMAS), and the Social Sciences Laboratory of the École Normale Supérieure.

With a quadruple tutelage (ENS, EHESS, CNRS, INRAE), CMH is directed since January 2025 by Anne Lhuissier (DR INRAE). The position is offered full-time. The expected distribution of activities is as follows: 70% of the working time will be devoted to the research missions carried out within the framework of the ANR project, and 30% to the valorization of the researcher's work, particularly through scientific dissemination activities, publication, and support for communication and valorization actions.

The researcher will have a workspace in a shared office, a computer, and access to the library of the ENS-Jourdan and to the scientific equipment and activities of CMH.

Profile Sought

Competences:
The researcher recruited must have solid knowledge in sociology of work and sociology of social relations of domination, in particular class, gender, and race relations. They must master qualitative research methods, including conducting interviews, observation, and ethnographic research, as well as the main stages of qualitative data analysis. An ability to contribute to the design of a survey questionnaire is expected, as well as an interest in the articulation of qualitative and quantitative approaches.

The researcher recruited must also demonstrate a good team spirit, relational and organizational skills, and be able to invest in a collective research project in collaboration with the other members of the team.
