Job Summary
Core and Main is seeking a motivated and results‑driven Outside Sales Representative to support our Fire Protection division, a leading distributor of fire protection products, fabrication, and related services across the United States. In this role, you will be responsible for profitably growing sales by managing existing accounts and developing new business within the fire protection market. You will partner with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to deliver complete solutions from fire sprinkler systems and pipe to fabrication and specialty components, ensuring projects are completed on time and to specification.
This position requires regular travel within an assigned territory, including on‑site customer visits, and operation of a company or personal vehicle more than 20 percent of the workweek. An acceptable Motor Vehicle Record is required.
- Conduct on‑site customer visits with new and existing fire protection contractors and accounts
- Manage and grow an existing book of business while actively prospecting for new opportunities
- Forecast, prospect, and bid new business across contractors, markets, and project opportunities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision‑makers including project managers, estimators, and business owners
- Identify customer needs and recommend fire protection products, fabrication services, and solutions
- Coordinate orders and project execution across internal teams including operations, credit, and accounts receivable
- Share market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback with internal stakeholders
- Partner with vendors and manufacturers to support product selection, pricing, and availability
- Support negotiations with suppliers and customers as needed
- Assist in mentoring and training of associates
- Experience in outside sales, distribution, or contractor‑facing roles
- Background in fire protection, construction, industrial distribution, or related technical product lines preferred
- Experience with consultative or solution‑based selling and point of sale or CRM systems
- Strong understanding of customer business needs and project‑based selling
- Ability to build relationships across all levels of an organization
- Self‑starter with the ability to manage a territory and work independently
- Growing revenue within an assigned territory
- Expanding relationships with fire protection contractors and customers
- Becoming a trusted advisor on products, fabrication capabilities, and project solutions
- Driving new business while maintaining a high level of service with existing accounts
